History of the Department of Statistics
The Department of Statistics was established on 1 January 1996. It comprised of five academic staff who had previously been in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics together with three members of the Waikato
Centre for Applied Statistics.
Offerings and facilities
The Department of Statistics now offers a variety of qualifications for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, which reflect the need for statistics in the community. Staff in the department have considerable experience in teaching and research in a wide range of applied and theoretical statistics papers.
Students taking statistics have access to a number of computer labs where they can work on modern PC desktops with access to specialised statistical packages (Minitab, R and Genstat).
