The Department of Statistics at the University of Waikato has one full Professor, one Associate Professor, five Senior Lecturers, one Lecturer as well as three Honorary Lecturers. The Department teaches approximately 150 full-time equivalent students from all Schools of Study (Schools of Study at Waikato are the equivalent of Faculties in other universities). Together with the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Statistics forms the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. The Department offers the following degrees: a three-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree without honours, a diploma in statistics (a postgraduate qualification aimed at those students whose first degree was in a subject other than statistics), a postgraduate diploma in statistics, a two-year Master of Science (MSc) degree, and a one-year Master of Computing and Mathematical Sciences (MCMS). Students can also take statistics as a major in degrees administered by other Schools. The Department offers two research-only degrees: the MPhil (one year) and the DPhil (three years). Within the Department of Statistics is the Waikato Centre for Applied Statistics, through which members of the Department carry out research and consultancy in close collaboration with other research institutes and industry. In particular, with researchers in the nearby CRIs: AgResearch, HortResearch and Crop and Food at Ruakura and NIWA and Landcare on the University Campus.
